NITOS demonstration at FIA Dublin

A novel video streaming scheme implemented and evaluated using the Openlab federated facilities

Federation of heterogeneous testbeds has become of major importance for the research community lately. Openlab aims at the design and development of a federation framework that would enable experimentation with heterogeneous resources across Europe. A significant focus of Openlab is on wireless testbeds, exploiting OMF, an organized framework for controlling and orchestrating experimentation and measurement collection across different testbeds. NITOS wireless testbed and Planetlab EU are already federated using OMF and as a proof of concept, a demo utilizing OMF federation of resources will be presented. In this demo, a wireless NITOS node receives a video service though a novel mechanism that is implemented in Planetlab EU. The new scheme maintains distributed video content in multiple servers in Planetlab EU and chooses dynamically to stream content to the wireless user though the optimal path, after selecting the best server. The server selection is based on the estimation of the routing delay between the available servers and the wireless node. The system constantly receives feedback regarding the condition of the routes both in the wired and the wireless part of the communication and adjusts dynamically the streaming process, switching always to the server that gives the minimum delay. Through this innovative scheme, the new service is able to maintain high QoS in the video streaming process to mobile users. The demonstrated implementation proves that the scheme is efficient in real conditions, since it live streams video in the large scale orchestrated experiment.

Vilnius, Lithuania, on 6-8 November 2013

The biggest ICT event in Europe: 'ICT 2013 - Create, Connect, Grow' will be held in Vilnius on 6-8 November, 2013. More than 4000 researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, industry representatives, young people and politicians are expected to come to Vilnius.

The event will focus on Horizon 2020 - the EU's Framework Programme for Research and Innovation for 2014-2020.

Networking Sessions

As part of this event, several networking sessions will be organised. The open call for proposals for networking sessions is published on the DAE website
, closing the 10th of May (EXTENDED!!!)

ICT 2013 event - your networking event - be part of it!
The networking sessions provide you and other participants with the opportunity:

To share their own ideas on a particular policy, technology or research and innovation theme in the context of Horizon 2020;

To be exposed to the views, perspectives and ideas of other participants and engage in a constructive dialogue with them;

To meet delegates with common or similar topical interests with whom they could collaborate in the future.

  The sessions will last 40 minutes. The reports of every session will be published online.
Participants can propose topics for networking sessions related to ICT in all parts of Horizon 2020 provided they meet the selection criteria.

Exhibition

ICT 2013 in Vilnius offers a unique opportunity for projects and companies to showcase their research, ICT products and innovative creations.
An integrating approach will group the exhibits to 5 themes:

digitally empowered citizen

smart and sustainable cities for 2020+

industry and business for tomorrow

intelligent connecting intelligence

culture, science and creativity
